Mirant Corporation

At the Potomac River Generating Station, we strive for continuous improvement in our environmental performance. We won’t stop evaluating ourselves just because we meet regulations, acquire permits and pass regular inspections. Knowing our corporate responsibility, we will continue to work hard to improve our operations.

Mirant employees Steve Leitner and Dawn Dickinson enjoy the walking path which runs along the Potomac River Generating Station property.

Best-in-class environmental performance means we:

  • Understand the impacts and risks posed to the environment by our operations;
  • Understand our compliance obligations, and provide a structure for tracking new developments and providing policy/technical input to legislative and rule-making processes where needed;
  • Provide a structure for measuring environmental performance, set improvement targets, and hold management accountable for performance compared to the targets;
  • Meet or exceed all applicable laws and regulations;
  • Integrate environmental considerations into our business operations and strategy;
  • Empower employees through compliance training and environmental awareness training;
  • Provide a framework for the flow of environmental performance information among operating facilities and management;
  • Establish the process and the expectations for environmental audits;
  • Define the process for correcting and preventing the recurrence of non-conformances;
  • Set expectations for facility-specific plans for environmental emergencies, such as spill management; and
  • Facilitate dialogue with interested parties, solicit feedback and respond.
