Stationary Source Permit to Operate

Purpose: State operating permit

Issued by: Commonwealth of Virginia

Renewal: Every five years

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit (NPDES)

Purpose: Authorizes discharge (after treatment) of process wastewater into U.S. waters

Issued by: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permit with D.C. Department of Health oversight

Renewal: Every five years

Storm Water Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP)

Purpose: Authorizes storm water discharges (after treatment) from industrial activity into U.S. waters

Issued by: EPA

Renewal: Every five years

Acid Rain Permit

Purpose: Compliance with Acid Raid Program under the Clean Air Act (CAA)

Issued by: Commonwealth of Virginia

Renewal: Every five years

Special Use Permit

Purpose: Right-of-way permit to operate and maintain four anchoring piles, seven anchors and an attached floating boom and netting surrounding the intake structure

Issued by: U.S. Department of the Interior

Renewal: Every five years

Radioactive Material License

Purpose: Allows use of equipment that contains radioactive materials

Issued by: U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Renewal: Every 10 years

Hazardous Materials Use Permits

Purpose: Authorizes the onsite use and storage of certain hazardous materials

Issued by: City of Alexandria

Renewal: Annual

Consent Agreement

Purpose: Establishes a Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT) standard for NOx and establishes a system-wide average for Mirant’s Mid-Atlantic plants

Issued by: Commonwealth of Virginia

Downwash Consent Order

Purpose: Ensures compliance with the Northern Virginia Area’s National Ambient Air Quality Standard for Ozone

Purpose: Revises 2004 consent decree
